Södertörn University invites applications for a fully funded doctoral studentship in Social Work within the research project “Sustaining Civil Society in the Context of Multiple Crises: Hubs of Engagement in Central and Eastern Europe and Sweden.”


As a doctoral student, you will become part of a vibrant, multidisciplinary research environment at the School of Social Sciences, engaging with topics such as welfare, social movements, segregation, and globalisation. Your main task will be to conduct research and write a thesis that contributes to understanding civil society’s role in times of crisis. The position offers four years of full-time study, international collaboration, and opportunities to participate in seminars and research networks.


We welcome proposals with a geographical link to the Baltic Sea region or post-communist Europe, or those offering comparative perspectives. Your employment starts on 1 September 2026, and applications are open until 11 February 2026.
