Sustaining collective struggles in times of multiple crises: Theoretical and methodological advancements in Eastern Europe and the Baltic Sea region

We invite scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit abstracts for the international conference to be held 24-25 September 2026 at Södertörn University, Stockholm, Sweden.

This event seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on how collective action and social movements persist, adapt, innovate and cooperate amid overlapping crises - political, economic, environmental, and social in Eastern Europe and the Baltic Sea area. Topics of interest are perspectives on the limits and possibilities to sustain collective action in the region, including:

·         Theoretical approaches

·         Methodological innovations

·         Collective action’s role in sustaining democracy and resisting capitalism in all its forms (illiberalism, neoliberalism, extreme nationalist forms, etc.)

·         Comparative perspectives

·         New forms of mobilization and organization

·         Intersectional alliances and transformative coalition work across different identities and topics

Abstracts (max. 300 words) should clearly articulate the research question, outline the methodology, and demonstrate the relevance to the conference theme. Accepted papers will be considered for inclusion in a special issue of a peer-reviewed academic journal. Presenters whose papers are selected may receive partial coverage of travel and accommodation expenses.

Submission deadline: 13 March 2026
